Yesterday evening, 338 Conservative MPs reneged on the party’s repeated election promise to “protect the NHS” by voting down a cross-party amendment specifically designed to ensure that our cherished National Health Service was not on the table in any future post-Brexit trade deals.
Astoundingly, as of the time of publishing, Evolve Politics are only media outlet who have covered the story – with the BBC, Sky News, ITV and numerous other mainstream media outlets appearing to decide that it was, for some reason, not newsworthy.
Politicians from all parties, including the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, have routinely clapped NHS workers for their heroic efforts during the Coronavirus crisis.
However, yesterday evening, virtually the entire Conservative Party chose to vote against a crucial amendment which would have protected our NHS and its staff from being up for negotiation in any future trade negotiations.
The amendment was so obviously in the public interest that six MPs from the hard-right DUP voted in favour of it, and even UKIP’s former leader, Henry Bolton, slammed the government for voting it down.
Below is a list of every single MP that voted to effectively put our NHS up for sale last night:

If your local MP is in the list above and you’re outraged at their obvious contempt for our precious NHS, why not email them to let them know your feelings via the Write To Them website.
By contrast, 250 MPs voted in favour of the amendment:
- 182 Labour MPs, including former leader Jeremy Corbyn and the current leader Keir Starmer
- 44 SNP MPs
- 10 Liberal Democrat MPs
- 6 DUP MPs
- 3 Plaid Cymru MPs
- 2 SDLP MPs
- 1 Alliance MP
- 1 Independent MP
- The Green Party’s sole MP, Caroline Lucas.
